What you get for the price
- 11 solar panels (550 watts each, made in India)
- A 6 kW inverter, the box that turns solar power into home electricity
- A steel stand to hold the panels on your roof
- Wiring, safety switches and earthing
- Installation. The two-way meter (net meter) comes from your electricity company, usually for a small fee.
Why prices differ
- Brand: Adani, Waaree, Tata Power Solar and others differ by about 5–15%.
- Stand height: a raised stand (so you can use the roof below) costs more.
- Battery: a system with batteries costs much more, and does not get the subsidy.
How solar saves money: two examples
Each solar unit your home uses replaces a unit you would buy from the electricity company. Extra units go to the grid and earn only a little. Example at ₹7 a unit:
| Use 700, solar makes 600 | Use 600, solar makes 700 | |
|---|---|---|
| Solar units used at home | 600 | 600 |
| Units bought from the company | 100 | 0 |
| Extra units sold to the grid | 0 | 100 × ₹3 |
| Bill before → after | ₹4,900 → ₹700 | ₹4,200 → ₹0 |
| Saving per month | ₹4,200 | ₹4,450 |
The second system makes 100 more units but saves only ₹250 more. Choose a size that makes about as much as you use.
Which size is right for you?
Look at your monthly electricity bill and find the closest row.
| Solar size | Good for a monthly bill of | You pay (after subsidy) | Units a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹800 | ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 | 4 |
| 2 kW | ₹1,700 | ₹60,000 to ₹90,000 | 8 |
| 3 kW | ₹2,500 | ₹87,000 to ₹1.32 lakh | 12 |
| 4 kW | ₹3,400 | ₹1.37 lakh to ₹1.92 lakh | 16 |
| 5 kW | ₹4,200 | ₹1.82 lakh to ₹2.52 lakh | 20 |
| 6 kW | ₹5,100 | ₹2.32 lakh to ₹3.12 lakh | 24 |
| 8 kW | ₹6,800 | ₹3.22 lakh to ₹4.22 lakh | 32 |
| 10 kW | ₹8,500 | ₹4.02 lakh to ₹5.22 lakh | 40 |

Words you will see
- kW (kilowatt)
- The size of a solar system. Bigger kW = more panels = more electricity.
- Unit
- One unit on your electricity bill (1 kWh). A fan running for a full day uses about 1.5 units.
- Subsidy
- Money the government pays back to you under PM Surya Ghar, after the system is installed.
- On-grid
- Solar connected to the electricity line, without batteries. Only on-grid systems get the subsidy.
- Net meter
- A two-way meter. It counts units you take from the line and units your panels send to it.
- DCR panels
- Panels made with Indian cells. Required for the subsidy; your installer will use them.
Common questions
What is the price of a 6kW solar system in India in 2026?
A complete 6kW rooftop system costs ₹3.1 lakh to ₹3.9 lakh, installed. After the government subsidy of ₹78,000, you pay ₹2.32 lakh to ₹3.12 lakh.
What is the 6kW solar system price with subsidy?
₹2.32 lakh to ₹3.12 lakh. The government pays ₹78,000 back into your bank account after installation (₹78,000 is the maximum, for 3 kW and above).
How many units does a 6kW solar system make per day?
About 24 units a day (20 to 27 depending on your city). That is about 725 units a month. See your city.
How many panels are needed for 6kW?
11 panels of 550 watts each. If your installer uses smaller panels, you need a few more.
How much roof space does 6kW solar need?
About 600 sq ft of open roof with no shade.
Is 6kW enough for my home?
6kW suits a home with a monthly bill of about ₹5,100 (730 units). If your bill is much smaller, choose a smaller system: extra units sold to the grid earn very little.
Can a 6kW solar system run an AC?
Yes, in effect. 6kW makes about 24 units a day, enough for a 1.5-ton inverter AC for about 18 hours a day. The AC runs as normal and your bill goes down.
